Roma people in Croatia

Programs are based on fundamental goal, and it is: attempt that Roma people is helped on one place in getting all informations in every day life considering health department, schooling, social care, employment and solving problems in family as addiction, violence and abusing.

Our programs are also and moral obligation to Roma people so that they could conserve language, customs and culture of Roma people, but also adjust to social status of State in more easier and qualitat way.

Gypsy music

Roma people Lovari, Gypsies, Gipsy

In the year 2001 we established NGO of original Lovari-Roma in Bjelovar. The main aim of this association was to help all Roma, out uspreserve autochthonous group of Croatian Roma whose existence on the territory of Republic of Croatia dates back to 14 th century. It has been established that the history of Lovari Roma, one of the 8 Roma groups that live on the territory of Republic of Croatia, is no-researched part of rich Croatian cultural heritage.

We, the remaining autochthonous Croatian Lovari Roma presently are minority among the Roma groups that have inhabited Croatia in the past years due to historical events. However, worldwide out of the total number of 15 million Roma, Lovari Roma make up 13 million. That is why the language of Lovari Roma, which is deemed to be the original Roma language, is proclaimed to be the official Roma language in the world. In the same time we are faced with entire loss of identity and falling into oblivion in the history as well as existence as autochthon Roma group.

Today the remaining authothonus Croatian Roma, 1.420 of us believe that it is our moral duty to help Roma, preserve our language and culture authenticity of Croatian Roma as well as authentic customs for the future generations. In order to fulfil our programmes our aim is to open a CULTURAL-EDUCATION CENTRE OF ROMA.
